Research:
The College of Materials Science (SMS) is well funded by many external agencies including NSFC, GDNSF, GDHED, Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Science and Technology, Shenzhen municipality, and a number of public companies. The annual budget exceeds RMB¥1 Million. SMS attaches importance to fundamental researches and applied basic researches, but it also commits itself to scientific payoffs popularization and Hi-Tech products development. With the incorporation of local industry community, there are many technologies and products commercialized.

In the research activities, Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Special Functional Materials, a subordinate of SMS, plays a role of protagonist. Under the financial support from Shenzhen municipality, the key lab is well-equipped, and has undertaken over 100 national, provincial or ministerial scientific research projects since established. In order to accelerate the industrialization of New Materials, the lab is open to the society, providing high-quality technical service to local enterprises on the cuff. SMS builds a director fund to support small and medium enterprises doing research here.
